All 'Bout The Horsepower...

John Crooks drives a 1968 Mustang in Top Street for Roadkill Racing. In his first full season of competition at Bandimere Speedway, John posted a team leading 29th place finish in season points. The Mustang is powered by a stroked 302, displacing 347 cubic inches, and has run as quick as 13.32 seconds in the 1/4 mile. The Mustang is regularly street driven. There are no power adders on the car, it's all motor.

The 347 CID stroker features Ford Racing pistons, rods, crankshaft, lifters, timing components, flexplate, and crank dampener. The cylinder heads are Edelbrock Performer RPM's and the camshaft is a mild Comp Cams roller grind. The intake is an Edelbrock Performer RPM and carburation is a 650 Holley DP. Engine assembly by 2Ton Racing.

The Mustang runs a C-4 automatic transmission with a Boss Hog converter and B+M components. The rear differential is an owner built 9" with 3.89:1 gears on a mini-spool. John also performed a front disc brake conversion and rebuilt the entire suspension. Power to the ground is through BF Goodrich drag radials. The combination makes for a very streetable, quick, and consistent bracket car.
